I had piston slap no my WRX, it and wasn't that bad... went away after being warmed up. I've seen Subaru warranty these quite often. There were a couple of cases of a bad timing belt tensioner that made the noise to sound like piston slap, replace the tensioner and the noise was gone. I do have some noise in my Evo during idle, I can't pinpoint where it's coming from, but it doesn't sound like piston slap to me. Bring it to the dealer see what they come up with.

No need for everyone just to guess in here. Just take it to the dealer and they will know right away.

I'm not asking for a diagnosis. Mine slaps a little, this I know for sure. I posted this to find out how many others have this problem.

I don't get the point of the poll if you want no one with slap to participate.

I know you don't want to hear it but I highly doubt it is piston slap. An I know piston slap too since I had an LT1 Camaro and worked at a Chevy dealer. Have you stethoscoped the motor to find the exact location of the noise? It's hard to get piston slap in 4 cylinder motors, especially after warm up. If you have noise after warm up, you have big problems. It could be anything from the TO bearing to a tensioner but I seriously doubt it's actual piston slap. Piston pin noise is much more likely.

Take it to the dealer but I think you won't be happy with thier response. I think they will blow you off.

if i don't have a girlfriend, once in a while i'll slap my piston. but only if i'm really bored.

but in my car with the 272's and the chatter from my clutch, i probably couldn't hear my piston slap even if it were busting through the top of the engine.

I am with Propellerhead, built stroker and a wee bit of slap when cold. Goes away once warmed up though....

I use to have it at warm up only now the damn thing only goes away after being beat on.
