The picture that they show with the flex section is from another car....they just use that as a demo to show.

Hey man, how do you like the wrapping? Does it seem to help performance wise? I did not ask George to wrap my downpipe. I'm still waiting for my car I sure wish it was finished....

I've heard of serious problems occuring with thin-walled stainless and titanium headers on American cars regarding heat-wrapping the exhaust manifolds. All the heat contained in the heat wrap helps underhood temps, however does not let the heat radiate from the pipes causing an inevitable breakdown. Makes sense, but I dont know if it will happen on the Evo.

So can someone answer the question of the size?

Is it 2.5" 2.65" or 2.75"

Or does HKS have all 3 different sizes?

thanks again

From the HKS website it's a bit over 2.5" (65mm)
http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=661

However people are contradicting just like you say 2.65" and 2.75".
Does anyone have a picture that clearly shows HKS DP size?

And that is also questionable because HKS website says it's 2.5" and the part numbers of every vendor so far was the same but they claimed different sizes.
Only pictures with a meter would prove it's bigger than 2.5"

I just received my HKS DP yesterday.

To answer the size question, I broke out the calipers and measured. All measurements are in decimal inches.
I found the external diameter to be 2.55".
I measured at both ends of the pipe and several places in the middle.
It is the same all along the pipe; very uniform.

The inside diameter, measured at both ends, was 2.45".
This tells me we are dealing with a .050" wall thickness, which sounds right.

So it looks like HKS was correct - 65mm is the right size.

The hole in the gasket that came with it (for the cat connection) measures at 2.625" (2 5/8").
It fits the flat area of the DP flange. I have the UR 3" cat, so not a problem.
Also, the flange bolt holes on the DP and the 3" cat line up OK.

I am glad I bought the HKS, but in hindsight, if you don't care that it's polished,
the Buscher 2.5" is a better deal for price.

I like it polished though.

Hi,

Thanks for info on the ID for the HKS DP.

Did you happen to measure the ID of the stock DP? I know the stock DP is not mandrel bent and has some "flattened" areas for clearance. So, even if it were the same ID as the HKS, the HKS would flow better. Still, I would think the stock DP is a slightly smaller ID.

Thanks,
