compressor surge happens when your throttle body closes (in between shifts) all that pressure has to go somewhere, this is where the BOV SHOULD come into play and open up to release that pressure. it sounds like yours is stuck closed, so therefore not releasing that excess pressure in your IC piping, the only place where that pressure can go is back upstream and try to get back into the turbos compressor housing (where its trying push the air out) that makes a huge traffic jam in your compressor outlet causing a 42 car pile up where your blades and bearings are, resulting in a fluttering sound. although a 42 car pile up is alot worse than this surge, its still not good to drive with it, it can mess your turbo up.

MY buddy has a stocker one, I'm hoping it'll swap out and fit with my Perrin intake that's on there now. I won't know til I go over to his house today and try it. I def will avoid boosting it at all costs until I get his on my car and working properly.

I found where some guys had trouble with the Synapse valves, and the problem was always a tiny spring on the inside breaking, and so I opened mine up and sure enough, the tiny spring was broken. And apparently it's ok to hook it all back up and continue to use it, so I did and it works great. Not really sure the purpose of the smaller spring, but I'm still going to order a rebuild kit for this valve and replace all the seals and springs....
