Opinions on Rads?

I am looking around for a high performance rad that will be good for daily driving, but also small/slim enough for future turbo upgrades. What are your guys suggestions that won't break the bank?

well the slim part is in the fan. if you looking to ever do a forward facing turbo or something huge your going to need a half rad http://www.mellonracing.com/index.ph...roducts_id=811 . a mishimoto full rad will work for anything else with stock fan and if needed to you could always buy a slim fan. they work and wont break the bank

so the half rad will work fine for daily driving? It's not just a short term racing type of thing? Also is a fan with a shroud worth it, or should I just get a fan? Thanks for the reply

your best bet honestly is probably a mishimoto full size rad and use the stock fan and shroud assembly it bolts right on. later on if you need a slim fan then get it

The mishimoto is really thick (much thicker than stock). I would suggest a cbrd radiator if you are ever thinking of pushing the space limits with a big turbo later on.

Yeah I checked out cbrd, looks like great stuff and a lot of people here have them it seems. If you guys think it is worth it, and a necessity for further upgrades to the turbo then I will get it. What about koyo? is anybody daily driving their half rad?

koyo is good. yes some people drive with half rad. and what turbo do you really plan on going with because overall having a full rad is gonna be better on cooling and most full rads even stock with a slim fan can fit a pretty big turbo. im going with a 6262 precision and it fits fine with a full rad

I have a 6266 (AMS Kit) and a Mishimoto on my black car. Will be fine with a Mishimoto if you aren't going much bigger. You will need a upgraded (stiffer) front motor mount with a Mishi and a big turbo though. A stiffer front mount is a good idea in general, but absolutely necessary with a bigger turbo and a Mishi. Otherwise under heavy braking you will dent up/puncture your radiator. Just depends how big you are going turbo-wise. Haven't personally owned a koyo (on an evo) but they have had solid reviews. One word of caution on the Mishimotos: Some people (most) get lucky (like myself) and only ever need one. Some people end up with a 3rd replacement radiator that still leaks. Mishi replaces them, but it can be a lot of time/labor if you get unlucky.

Edit***I wouldn't recommend a half radiator on anything but a drag car***

Well it seems I'm on my way, I've got blox motor mounts and an in galls stiffy, so I should have a stiff enough mount. Im wanting to go for a v band setup with a ball bearing turbo. still unsure of the turbo I want though. I'm wanting to go from my 350 to 500 eventually.

I have the CBRD slim radiator with their add-on slim fan. I retain my car's AC and condenser fan and the temps have NEVER budged in the Texas heat with the air conditioning on. Not just daily driving 15-20 miles, but Dallas traffic and all during a 120+ mile drive with mixed speeds. I even *minorly bent some fins on it during a manifold removal that might make Chad Block cry lol. I race my car at the track at least once a month to practice treeing and tuning. This might be the best non-power adder I have purchased. Well worth the money and it allows a lot of clearance for my GT35R.

Do NOT go half width for daily driving in the area of what I said above. You may get away with it for cooler environments.

Building things one by one- and not outsourcing overseas for a sub par core does tend to bring our prices up

Our radiators arent a great profit margin product for us- They are more so a way for us to show people our attention to detail- and provide a superior product-

our 1" radiator was tested against 4 others about 4 years ago- beat them all in a major magazine- but they didnt publish the results because of the other companies who were paying for advertising in the magazine threatened to drop their ads- politics won- but our product out performed-

Thank you for your follow up!

our 1" radiators now have proprietary aluminum brackets for 1" fans etc- no more push through mounts-

Stock unit lasted me 140K. Car never had a cooling issue.

Unless you need the bling factor, EVO's really have no issues with cooling at all
