Walbro fuel pumps. Failed right out of the box.

Hey guys just did a fuel pump upgrade on a friend’s car this Sunday. Well first sign of trouble was not much noise when you turn the key prime the pump. Then it took a few cranks to fire it up. But first initial drive everything seemed right. Got a call later that night and it seams that fuel was cutting out just under 1 bar of boost. Everything else in the car was fine and running like a champ. Just a warring to you guys out there doing the install and this is your daily driver. Don’t throw you factory pump away.

If anyone is wondering if I installed the pump wrong trust me I have done more fuel pump upgrades then I can count on WRXs,STIs and EVO. Plus it works until the fuel pressure regulator opens under boost. Pump can not keep up with the flow required.

I did the PE pump on my Evo and yes it’s twice as much but OEM quality. Don’t cheap out if you want to do it do it right.

Re: Walbro fuel pumps. Failed right out of the box.

Does the PE include the filter, etc or just the pump?

Also is it an exact fit (e.g. length) or did you need to modify anything?

I heave heard on other forums that Walbro's do fail but everyone seems to be running them and those that work work good.

Both are bolt on with perfect fit. I would suggest to reuse the stock filter.

I have never had problems with PE pumps. But they are rated at 210 instead of 255 for the walbro. A little less of a rating but still good for 400hp.

We had similar problems with my 255 Walbro at first. We pulled the pump out of the assembly and found that the pump wasn't pushed fully into the rubber grommet. This was causing the pump to not suck in enough fuel (And run ridiculously lean).

It's just a small thing that can easily be overlooked even if you've installed a bunch of these.

Then why are guys having stock pumps loose pressure at higher RPM run after run on the dynos. Yes it can support it but how long? Just basicly the stock pump is not constent and when it heats up it starts to loose it's abiltiy to keep pressure up.

Now Dynoflash and Vishnu have posted up to upgrade pumps.

Also on a side note. Turbo Mag is not what I call technical reading. If you like to see crome wheels on Supras with big turbos boy all means it's really only good for the pictures.

IMHO.

No this one was all the way in. I check twice for that.

Cool.

At least it failed straight from the box and not 1500 miles into driving.
