Mitsubishi Evo 3 with MSD DIS 2 - Help Needed (SORTED)

Mitsubishi Evolution 3 RS CE9A

Link G4 Storm Plug in ECU

4G63

With MSD DIS 2 ignitor and MSD 8239 Coils (for eclipse/talon/dodge/mini cooper)

I had my MSD DIS 2 wired up according to the manual. but no spark.

I believe it wasn't sparking, because i had the factory ignitor unplugged. or whatever this thing is:

I deleted the MSD DIS 2 ignitor from the setup and ran the factory Ignitor with the MSD coil pack, and it runs sweet, but i want to run the DIS 2 ignitor.

Im thinking about it now, if i unplug the factory ignitor, or whatever it is, it wont fire, but if i install the DIS 2 with the factory ignitor, something bad would happen, 2 ignitors cant be safe.

Help?

What's the advantage of using the MSD ignitor over the factory one?

Without seeing exactly how you wired it, it is hard to help. Did you wire the factory ignitor plug to the MSD ignitor?

Advantages are Bigger spark at 30psi @ 9000rpm and switchable adjustable ignition retard function.

it isn't wired to the factory ignitor wiring at all, the factory ignitor is left out with nothing plugged into it when i have the MSD DIS 2 wired in.

Its wired as follows:

MSD Heavy red and black - to battery

12 volt switch red - to oem harness switch wire

coil 1 wire white - to ecu coil signal 1

coil 2 wire green - to ecu coil signal 2

2 brown/orange white, which is coil power wire - to power wire for the coil

brown/white wire - to coil 1

brown/green wire - to coil 2

light blue, 2 step - unconnected.

brown, anti theft - unconnected

im thinking without the factory ignitor it isnt sending out a signal to the MSD DIS 2 ignitor, to send a signal to fire the coils.

Remember that MSD use Rising edge in ignition setup, not Falling edge as most other systems use including OEM Mitsubishi igniter. Please check your settings. And I would NOT use the stock igniter and MSD at the same time.
You must also check your ignition delay when your have your car running with your MSD ignition.

You dont need any tacho adapter to make the engine run. Nor to get the tacho to work either.
Anyway it is good it runs now

yes you do. the signal responsible for the tach is also partly responsible for firing the injectors and ignition.

intercepting the signal with the dis 2 gives a poor signal to either the injectors or ignitor, resulting in a no run situation or it runs then shuts off.

The signal responsible for the stock tach is not responsible for firing the inj or ign. Tacho signal are wired from the ecu directly to the tacho.

What signal are you intercepting and why?
