To add a little fuel to the debate: I spent about 8 hours a month ago reading all about oil filters, brands, filter rate flow rates, etc. What I ended up using is the factory Mitsu filter. It seeems it is made by Denso who makes quality parts. Also, the thing that interested me the most was the fact that if the filter media is too good, this prevents the oil from passing through filter media and instead goes through the bypass valve, which means you are running unfiltered oil. With these higher revving motors with many sensitive bearings(turbine) I feel that I would rather have good pressure throughout the motor, not high pressure at the filter trying to get the oil through restrictive filter media, then dumping oil (unfiltered) through the bypass. From the articles that I read, most of the filters are made by the same company anyways. Some that seem to stand out more when cut open seem to be Donaldson and Baldwin filters. Just my 2cents

I see Purolator lists L14610 as the right model in their application chart.

That is correct.
I just tried to put on an OEM filter on (as I have 4 or 5 times) and it didn't go on. It felt like if I would have forced it on it would have cross treaded it. The part # is a MZ690116

Regarding MZ690116. My dealer just sold this filter to me and there is not even room for it to fit it is so wide. It is shorter and wider than the one that is on there now. This is my first time to change the oil on this car. The one that is on now ends in ...17. What gives?

I wouldn't worry about it. I just changed my oil and screwed on a MZ690116 no problemo. It fits A-OK. Don't forget to use a new crush washer on the drain plug.

To any of you using Fram, STOP. You've got some learin' to do. Fram filters are the crappiest pieces of crap out there.

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/

This is just one study out of many that points out how bad Fram filters really are. Stick with OEM or Mobil 1.

If you want proof yourself, buy a Fram and a Mobil 1 filter, get your hacksaw or dremel, and disassemble. It's easy to see why the Fram is so bad.

I bet that you could get the stock filters for cheaper from Conicelli Mitsubishi www.partznet.com . Give them a call. I get the OEM filters for my Eclipse for about $4 a pop.

Yep - I bought a dozen of the stock filters online for about 4 bucks a pop. Made by Denso. They come pre-lubed and ready to spin on with a cool little plastic cover to keep out the dust until it's time to use 'em. Champion labs makes both the K&N and the Mobil1 filters.
