Rebuilding an Exedy Twin HD

Hey guys so i tried searching for what i am asking for but really could not find anything. So i got my rebuild kit for the exedy twin and i was going to resurface the flywheel then put it all back together. is there anything special i have to do when putting it all back together? Id hate to install the clutch and immediately have it start slipping or something like that so i figure i'd ask before i rebuild it. Thanks

When you get the flywheel surfaced, make sure you take the same amount off of the pillars.

Oh yeah that makes sense. Thanks for that.

If you didnt get a new throw out bearing, wavelock clip or monoloc-preferred, and have time, get them.

I rebuilt my exedy, added STM clutch fork stopper, and act monoloc.

I also polished all of the pillars as per the instructions on jacks transmission website and I have no chatter.

It's a great clutch.

Definitely polish the basket. I didn't and had to drop the trans again after I couldn't get it into gear while stopped. I also put on the monolock but it was still in the middle of the build so I haven't put many miles on it yet to say if it's worth it or not.
Make sure the "fingers" are seated into the grooves of clutch plate, and not sure if needed but I offset my disks

Polishing the basket

I'm guessing you didn't take pics of the areas you polished per jacks transmissions

I didn't but here's where I polished them, basically all the fingers that connect metal to metal on the flywheel basket so when you slide the clutch plates on the flywheel it's smooth. After reading my old thread, I also purchased a new pivot ring since the rebuild kit didn't come with one. They have a habit of heat cycling and didn't want to drop the trans again.

What/how did you polish it with? Just wondering. Did you remove much material or just make it smooth with say 2000 grit. And when resurfaced remove the same amount from the top
Of the area you polished?

I hand polished mine starting with 800 grit and polished up to 2000. At 800 I took off mostly carbon build-up. When I was done it looked like a mirror basically. Might have been a little too much but had 12 hours at work to waste. I do know when I started it up, the clutch has never felt this great. It falls into gear without any issues. Yes, make sure the top perch is surfaced (the thing you polish) to the same as the flywheel. Most shops automatically do this but ask to make sure in case.

Huh... I never heard of the polishing before... I'll give that a shot next time I rebuild my clutch / transmission (hopefully not anytime soon).

Yes, polish the front and both sides of all fingers. I wish I had took pics but I was on the verge of sticking C4 in the exhaust after I spent all that time installing, and had to turn around and take it back out.
