Evo 9 Mr Wont rev above 4k RPMS
Hey guys...What I have is a 06 Evo 9 MR. It has a Mishimoto Front mount,Full HKS Exhaust,1.5 bar Wastegate Actuator. It was having bad compressor surge however i installed a Greedy Adjustable BOV now it does not have it anymore. Problem I am having is it does not rev above 4k rpms under load however it will rev till Redline when it is idling no probs. Also I had installed somthing that bolts right to the turbo that was ported out for less turbo leg almost looked like a bell and was part of the exhaust. So that is what has been done. I still have stock intercooler pipping wanting to go Hardpipe ASAP. The check engine light as well has been on for a while car runs great but wont rev above 4k when drivng I actually bought the New BOV cause the old aftermarket knock off was crap again in has no surge but still wont rev above 4k.

happens just as I reach 4000-4500 rpms. just wont go past it while driving. if sitting and just idling, goes all the way to redline and seems to be fine.

I can rev it to redline when parked, just not while driving. It wont go past 4000-4500 rpms... When the check engine light came on when a new part was put on.I believe it was the BOV and 1 more part. the waste acuator. i think that is what it was called.. it seemed to be part of the problem, i actually could only get it to 2500 rpms. that is one of my next steps, to have it scanned. Thanks for the reminder

I dont know why you havent scanned it first instead of assuming things, but it sounds like its on limp mode. My guess its related to mivec, check your oil level and camshaft position sensor. You can rev past 4,000rpm at idle cause you're stationary speed sensors are not detecting movement, but underload the car is protecting itself so you cant go past 4,000rpm

This same issue happened to me and I just had happened to have a IX MR as well.
Anywho, its probably hard to notice but you have a huge boost leak somewhere in your intercooler piping.
Check all your piping to verify this. At idle it will rev to redline because youll never get boost in neutral (or under no load). While driving and under load/boost (when you try to accelerate) in will studder or whatever.
I believe you are also still on stock MAF. This wouldn't happen with speed density as with MAF, the sensor is before the turbo therefore the issue you are having is anywhere after the turbo and before or even at the throttle body.
When you try to go past 4000rpm, because there is a leak your engine will dump fuel trying to accelerate. Youll need an oil change and youll notice fuel in the oil. And you will need to change the primary O2 if youve been trying to drive it like this for more than 2 days.
