Oil for first start on rebuilt engine?

What oil is everyone using for first start up on their built engines? Also for the first 500 miles after that?

I just used regular Valvoline VR1 20w-50 for my break in, changed it after 50~ miles, put in 20w-50 again, tuned it for full attack and floored it.

ask your engine builder they will have a recommendation, likely an oil high in zinc and phosphorous "break in oil"

Non synthetic to break it in.. I prefer a high zinc for break in. Thereafter a synthetic with mild zinc 900 ppm

So I should be good to run the non-synthetic vr-1 if I can't pick up one of the specific break in oils?
