Question pics of piston - possible reason of this damage ?

this is the piston from my buddys's car and he asked me to open this thread
wants to know what can be possible reason of such damage
high EGT's I think ?
happened to only one piston (to the second or third)

Detonation. The piston looks tiny in the first pic. What car did it come out of?

Question Injector

Maybe a faulty fuel injector in that cylinder causing a lean condition and then detonation.

This will happen sometimes even without a faulty injector. Some cylinders will just be leaner than other or hotter than others and if the tune is on the edge it will take out 1 piston before the others.

Looks a little lean. Thats what mine looked like when my fuel pump went out during a pull. I noticed the car about fell flat on its face and the AFR was in the 14.7 range at WOT. New pistons for me.

This is why I run my average AFR at the wide band rich. There will be leaner cylinders than others. Waste gas and haul ***.
