oil decisions

guys i know this had been beaten to death but im about to go nuts...i have an 04 with 75,xxx miles...stock motor except it has bc cams...car is on an evo 9 turbo tuned on aem to 25 psi...im new to evos so i thought id ask you guys...a good friend of mine who is a famous evo guy around here said to use bp 20w-50 or rotella 15w-40...20w-50 on stock tolerances goes against everything i believe in so i went ahead and used the rotella to try it out because he urged me to do it and asked to trust him so i did it but its ****ing diesel oil and non synthetic...also its a 15w for cold start...i had a 500whp sr20 and i used amsoil 10w-40 synthetic on it and the thing lasted years and years...i wanted to use amsoil 10w-40 on it but idk everyone has different opinions...all i know is this rotella thing is driving me nuts...also, is it ok to go back to synthetic now that im using non synthetic? since i bought the car i used mobil 1 10w-30 but i changed to rotella...i only have about 2 - 500 miles on the rotella...another suggestion was bp partial synthetic 10w - 40...what do you guys think?

Rotella synthetic is top oil.
15w40 is likely perfect oil for Evo.

I own European market TME and it's owners manual does specify 20w50!!!
And it's same engine as Evo 7/8.

Rotella I believe was first to market with synthetic, just before Mobil SHC Rally and Mobil 1 in the 1980's.

I have uses Amsoil but some experiences mechanics advised against it.

Redline mt90 was miracle in my 5 speed and most highly recommend it.

Mogul 300V is price no object obvious top technical choice.

It's ok until next oil change
Maybe too much detergent suitable for diesel but unnecessary for Evo

You'd be fine with the Amsoil 10W-40.

yeah I'm a big amsoil fan but it seems like the evo guys/shops around here advise against it...most swear by brad penn...the main mechanic at a local shop says to use brad penn 10-40...I know the built motor guys use brad penn 20-50 but has any stock motor guys used the brad penn 10-40 for a long time successfully?

Out here in Cali where Im at its regularly been in the 90s for most of the year. I have been using 10w30 and been having some lifter tick. I tried Mobil 1 0w40, lifter tick has gone away and oil pressures seem just fine. Cold start oil pressures are very similar to 10w30 I was using as well. ymmv

Your evo will last thousands of miles using the AMO 10W40. This oil is designed for high performance vehicles...

The shops or people around your place that are telling you to stay away from AMSOIL have no clue what they are talking. . Many evo's using AMO, Zrod, SSO with great success.

Let me say it this way Brad Penn a low group 3 oil AMSOIL a group 4 oil.. no brainer which one to use.... i want to best for my engine which is why I choose to use AMSOIL or Motul

I know you were using the Zrod 10W30. .. then try the Euro formula 5w40 or the AMO 10W40

Well I got the Mobil 1 0w40 for free to try and was curious. Is the Euro Formula 5w40 or the AMO 10w40 compatible with E85?

I've been using the Valvoline VR1 20w-50 grey bottle for about a year now and no issues here.
