6Speed on evo ix mr failing

After a high speed run I had a rough shift in 4th and after the run I was usin 4th just fine after the run and it was still strong for like 60seconds but downshifted to 3rd at 1800rpm cause of speed limit and a tight turn then, in 3rd from 1800 i accelerate gently and shift smoothly into 4th at 3000rpms and it immediately makes a loud *** clanking noise in 4th but it still works and accelerates while makin the clanking noise and now it grinds when u shift into 4th (guessing synchro failure) and still clanks like it's skipping a tooth or somethin but the gear still works

It's an evo IX Mr with a 2.0stage 1 evo dynamics build (15k on new engine), stock trans has 88k miles on it and has been getting 375whp 345tq thrown at it for 73k miles and this is my first prob with the 6 speed on the IX MR

I have a vid I'll stick to this of the sound.

Please people comment and suggest what should be done it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

ConnorEvoIX.

You should ditch the 6 speed gearbox for the stronger 5 speed. The 6 speed transmissions are incredibley weak, especially 4th gear.

I'm surprised you made it that far on that transmission. I have 50k on my IX MR, and 6th gear is very hard to get in and out of gear. I have a spare transmission that was rebuilt that I'm installing soon. I recommend that everyone that owns an Evo with a 6spd transmission always have a spare transmission lying around. And the reason that I won't convert mine to a 5 speed is because as rare as the IX MR's are becoming, I want to keep it as original as possible.

Rare?! The Evo IX MR was the most produced Evo IX that came State Side.

4176 - Evolution IX MR
3667 - Evolution IX GSR
358 - Evolution IX RS
8201 - Total exported Evolution IX's to the United States

what about the evo 8 MRs, are they rare? I like how smooth my 6 speed trans is, but it is so damn weak. Shep is selling upgraded gearsets, should make the trans worth-while

That's a lot of MR's, assuming you're only searching the 2006 year model. See how many SE's or RS's are on there

Amsoil been in there 10k I know I should change it every 3000 but been busy, the fluid in it looks like **** all in it, looks like carbon deposits in the fluid I'm guessing it's pieces of 4th gear teeth
