Replaced Your transfer Case?
#16
Do you think this problem will be corrected on 2004's?
This, the clutch failiures and mitusbishi dealers propensity to void warranties are the main reason I've kept from buying an EVO yet. I really want to get and EVO 8, but I want stone reliability out of my car. And dont want to have to spend thounsands on drivetrain parts just cuz I have I/E and a flash. Any opinions?

Does anyone have part number and/or price quote for the new RS TC?? If not, if anyone can get a vin number from an RS, that would work also.
Yes mine is starting to whine, not really loud but noticable. It started right after a track day with a lot of sideways driving. I was running RL 75-90 in the TC, I dumped the TC fluid (looked normal), and removed the little inspectoin plate to see the ring and pinion. One of the ring gear teeth had a small chip taken out of the edge. The car has 25K (over 300WHP) with original stock clutch still holding strong, although I can tell it is wearing thin.
If I have to get a new TC I mine as well spend a little extra and upgrade to the RS version. I hear it is about $500-$600 more than the standard TC, but I have not been able to confirm this yet.
BTW I have decided to run RL light weight shock proof in the TC and rear diff from now on. If your making over 400WHP and drag racing the heavy weight might be a better idea.

how loud is the t-case issue I have 9100 mile and my car is progressively sounding like a honda in reverse (while im going forward)
I have been through a few tunnels to try and hear it but unless I am going slowly I cant here it.

I hate to tell you this bbyEvoGirl, because I am not sure if it will do you any good at this point, but you can buy a brand new TC from mitsubishiparts.com for $1,647.38, they will ship to you for $60. They told me they keep two in stock at all times.
The RS version with limited slip is going to run $1,922, but is not available yet.
I swapped one out for the first time, it took about 2-3 hrs, an experienced shop should be able to do it in less than 2 hrs.
By shopping around, a TC replacement should cost less than 2k. That includes labor and keeping your old unit for possible spare parts/rebuild.
