Replaced Your transfer Case?

Please respond ONLY if your transfer case has been replaced. Note that you should select two choices. One for mileage and one for warranty or not. Thanks.

I realize these things are not the strongest drivetrain parts in the world, but how are you breaking them? I have done countless clutch drops on my 90 talon AWD and never broken a thing. Given, I never had any problems with wheelhop. Still have a stock clutch in my EVO, so hard launches are kind of out of the question. Are they just going out on you, or are you doing something to break them?

Hi,

There appears to be a manufacture's defect in a small number (so far). Plus a few have been broken on sticky tracks and aftermarket clutches. The 1G DSM's ususally blows diffs when horsepower and "shock" exceeds the drivetrain's capacity to absorb both. And the Evo drivetrain is substantially different from the DSM's. (like a different zip code)

I haven't had any problems at all in 31k miles.

Although when I switched to redline products at 15k. I did notice ALOT of metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug.

I've read numerous reports that this front/center diff might also be shimmed to closely.
If thats the case, its probably best to be gentle with the drive train post break in period until everything gets broken in more.

I dont launch my car either which probably helps.

FWIW..

For anyone that has tossed their transfer case, do you mind telling me what brand and type of fluid you had in there when it went?
