Oil Pan Cleanup

I am doing a rebuild on my engine and I want to completely clean my oil pan to get rid of any contaminants and the old oil. I don't have access to a hot tank, and I need to clean it in my own home. What is the best way to go about it?

So, spraying brake cleaner on it after its dry won't hurt it or leave behind anything that could harm my engine?

Break cleaner does leave behind a residue that will prevent rust but I don't know what that chemical is. To be safe just wash however you want, and rub it down with new motor oil.

You can use any automotive solvent from your local parts store. Degreaser or carb cleaner will cut through the oil better. Finish it off with brake cleaner and you'll be all set..

I bought an old one off of CL for $100, and had it in the garage until it quit working. Worked wonders for cleaning big engine, transmission, and drive-train parts. And we have parts washer tank for smaller stuff more intricate stuff. The dishwasher went out and we have never replaced. Probably should, it was an awesome "tool".
