Evo 8 w/ 4g64 2.4L block
I have recently been considering doing a 2.4L 4G64 build. I'd likely be using a stock bore 4G64 block and crank (assuming the stock crank is forged) and my 4G63 oil pan and head. I've never had an engine built before so I'm not really sure what piston/rod combo to use. Looking for near-stock compression & 2.4L of displacement.
And before you scream at me to use the search function, I did do some digging and wasn't able to find much (if anything) regarding the reliability of a setup like this. Is there anything I should know before I decide to go through with it?

You'll want 150mm rods. Piston size will depend on what your machine shop says you need..... Likely a .20 over piston for the 4g64 comes to a 87mm piston (stock is 86.5mm). However there quite a few options when building a 2.4L. What block do you want to start with? Do you want a long rod engine? First though, what are you intending to do with the engine you build? There is a great thread here on everything you need to know about building a 2.4L.

I think I found the one you're talking about. This one, right?

I've been doing some skimming and I can see that it's full to the brim with really great info. I just haven't had a lot of time to go through it all.
I was gonna be getting an oem block, crank, and girdle from a 99-03 Galant. The person who is selling it told me that it has the best cross hatching he's ever seen in a block with over 120k miles on it. It's going to be a weekend warrior and I was also hoping to get into some circuit racing.

you will want 156mm rods, and the appropriate stroker pistons to go with them. If you're going to run 150mm rods on a 100mm crank, you might as well do it in a 4g63 and avoid the hassles of a different water pump, timing belt, and having to degree/dial-in the cams.
Since you've never built an engine before, I would suggest coordinating your efforts with a shop that is familiar with this. Like English Racing, Buschur, STM, etc. A 4g64 is not exactly a "slap it together and drop it in" type build for the Evo, so you may be better off getting a long block from a shop that knows this setup.
