i'm with you on the pump gas. i have an e85 pump in my town, but that doesn't help me at track events and it's too much power for AX.
FWIW i have a MAP ef2.5 and a mild cam. the car is a IX and makes 350 on 91oct. it's plenty enough power for AX and is very responsive.
if i were super serious about AX, i'd go back to a IX turbo with bolt-ons and good suspension. just my opinion, though.
do you have access to other drivers with Evos so you can ride along and see how their builds work for them?

for transmission work, most people use Jack's or Shep. you can google either. both really seem to know what they are doing judging by the loyalty of their customers.

To add, first time ever on the track, we finished 4th overall in a ~80whp VW. In the rain. Auto-x is 85% driver, 10% tires, and 5% everything else, IMNSHO.

true. one of the fastest guys at our local AX drives a stock IX SE with some bolt-ons in STU. i've driven my friend's '98 Neon R/T (GS, i believe) and beat a lot of "faster" cars.

the courses aren't big and open enough for high-hp cars to have an advantage. you gotta be able to drive decent.

You will need a down pipe and oil feed line as well. Plan on at least 1600.
