why would you just install cams with no cam gears
264/272 have no problem stalling , friend of mine was running 272/272 with Toda cam gears on stock ecu and no problems either . now he has the P1 with it , which the car pulls alot harder ...

i was thinking about just going 264's with hks cam gears... i don't plan on upgrading my turbo anytime soon... but if i do, will the 264's work better than stock with an upgraded turbo? i know they won't out perform 272's...

why ?? why 264/272 and not 264/264 , and why not go 272/264s ? does anyone have a dyno of these setups so we could compare? an autocrosser may need a different set up to a drag racer, so a little clarity on the choice would help

I would imagine anything is better than stock.

264/264 would increase low/mid range

272/272 increase midrange/top end

264/272 would probably be a mix of both.

The art of tuning the EVO has come a long way since 2004.

Now HKS 272's are pretty much the minimum with 280 being more of the norm.

Little to no idle issues with any cams.

its not only idle quality that causes a concern, what about an auto x situation where you need to rotate the car useing the power at low rpm ? or when driving on the road in normal situations where you need to make a quick pass on the car in front.....the cam does dictate how you drive the car...i think big cams that give big power up top is just for braging rights and bar talk,,,torque and the spread, i think is more important for the street or auto x

Here is my set-up with HKS's 264i and 272e Cams.

Fidanza Cam Gears, both set very negative.

The little Cams can hold the power all the way past Redline, . And, also notice the mid power, .

264i/272e with Cam Gears. Good choice.

They have allways made power for me, even on stock 9.8 Turbo, .

Tuning, also very important, as some have mention.
