hard to tell in pic but if the timing trigger under crank gear is upside down the timing would have been way off and bent valves first crank. one tooth off as pictured wont hurt motor. you can remove no 1 spark plug and insert smooth rod. rotate engine back and forth a bit till piston is at highest point. something I do standard on every timing belt job.
