How Difficult to Change Radiator?

While installing my MBC, I lightly scraped the radiator while removing the fan, and now it leaks. Did a search and found that the radiators are fragile, and this has happened to a few members (I'm kinda angry that I was so careless!)

Anyway, I'll probably put in a PWR, and was wondering if what's involved in doing the swap. Will removing the air bax, mass air + IC tubing hoses and fan be enough to reach everything and do the job, or will I have to remove more...?

The fan has some very hard, sharp edges, that must have knicked one of the radiator tubes as I pulled it out. I should have been more careful, but on the other hand that radiator is pretty damn fragile.

Yeah I did the exact same thing while installing my MBC. It was pretty easy to put a new radiator in. Just drain the coolant, take off the upper and lower radiator hoses and switch out with the new radiator. Attach the hoses back and add coolant. Now I know next time Im taking the fan out to put a piece of cardboard between the fan and the radiator.

Please stay on topic. If you don't know the answer to Tony G's question, do not post.

I think you'll be fine if you remove the parts you've mentioned. For me the bggest offender was the upper IC pipe. It might be easier to pull the whole radiator out with the fan attached. I'm not sure since I had my whole intake out when I pulled mine to patch it.

You might want to consider using some epoxy such as JB Weld to repair the leak. I used it on my radiator and it worked okay. I'm keeping an eye on it but I think it will be okay for an upcoming track event.

If you can't do a repair you might also want to save a few buck and go with Koyo aftermarket. The general concensus I gathered was that the Koyo was a worthy substitute for the stock unit and cost around $250 IIRC.

I patched mine with JB quick you can use this or their weld product to patch depinding on the hole. at least you dont have to change the radiator right now.

TonyG,

How's your radiator going? I just scraped my radiator yesterday (when I was installing my Air Intake) and now it's leaking.

Did you take your radiator out without much difficulty?

Well, nevermind... I'm taking my car to my local mechanic to have it replaced with a Koyo one (from Radiator.com).

Its very easy to replace -you can do it yourself. Once everything is out of the way, you just loosen a few bolts and it slides right out.
