Tomei 290's

I searched but I haven't found too much on these cams. Wondering if anyone on here runs them and how do they stack up compared to the gsc s3's and kelford 288/280's? I'm assuming because of the extra duration it may create a decent amount of lag compared to some kelford 272's(which I'm running now), but sometimes that may not be the case depending on cam profiles. I don't mind a slightly slower spool if the gains up top are worth it. Let me know if you guys have had any experiences with these. Thanks

What turbo are you running? You probably don't need that much cam unless you're shooting for, or nearing, 4 digit power numbers. Which is power that S3's are capable of making..

I just recently switched from S1 to S3 cams on an HTA73 Green and really don't notice much difference in spool. I spool a little later now but tuned the S3 maxing out my single 255 while waiting for my double pumper and I'm easily making more power at less boost and timing than before. I was really impressed.

DSport did a huge cam test earlier this year with an Evo as their test mule/engine. Check their results for hard numbers on the cams you mentioned as I believe that all were included.

I'm aware of the dsport test and the tomei 290's cam out on top. I currently have kelford 272's which I was going to swap in some s3's however I called like 10 different places and nobody has them in stock so I began to look into the next best cam which it seems like the tomei 290's. I was looking for a member on here who can actually tell me if they are running these cams and how do they feel all around. I am currently running a turbo lab "35r/ef4" sized turbo(60x83 compressor and tdo6h4r ported unclipped turbine) on the stock block/head. the car is currently making 460-480whp but my tuner said it's running out of breath and I should look into getting some larger cams such as the gsc s3's and we've been tossing the tomei 290 idea around. i know i can ask all i want but the only real way to find out is to do it and see the results.

Instead of cams, do you have e85 available?

Your cams are not limiting you at less than 500whp. I would look into a better turbo..

Kelford 272s support considerably more power than where you are and are not your problem. It's difficult to offer comment without seeing dyno data and logging, but that turbo leaves a big question mark.

I thought the same as well but i searched and found other members on here running the same exact turbo making very good power. If i remember correctly there is one on pump gas making 480+whp and another one with a 2.3 making 650+whp on e85. The only difference on my turbo is mine is the only one that didn't have the turbine wheel clipped per request because i was worried about it being too laggy.

650whp on a 73hta Green?! I call BS. I could of sworn Curt Brown had the record on the Green and it was 602whp. You would be over spinning the living the hell out of a green to get it to 650whp.

As far as the health of the 113k stock long block still in there the compression test was actually pretty good. Cyl #1 148 cyl #2 152 cyl #3 155 cyl #4 158

Its not a green. This turbo was made by turbo lab and it is very similar to a ef4.

Except there are 2.0L EVOs with EF4s giving 560+whp with Kelford 272s and E85, and I've found at least one example of a 2.3 making approximately the same power you are with the same Kelfords and an EF3.

There is nothing that points to the cams as a problem. There are just too many examples that demonstrate otherwise. Again, some dyno/logging info may prove to be helpful in identifying the issue.
