Flywheel Bolts Backing Out

Really hate to be making this thread but here goes. Last year my flywheel bolts backed out on me (I was stupid enough to re-use them over the years so I assumed that was why. I had an ACT 6 Puck clutch kit with a prolite flywheel. It was bad enough that it damaged the face of the crank and the flywheel. I ended up just building my motor and ordering a built 5 speed since I was on a DBB FP Red.

Finally finished my build (2.3L) and finished up tuning and all of that only to have the flywheel bolts back out again. Only things that were re-used from last year were the clutch disc and pressure plate. I got a new street light flywheel to go with them. Flywheel bolts were brand new also, torqued to 100 ft/lbs using blue threadlocker.

I haven't pulled the gearbox off yet to see the damage but I did catch it early this year so hopefully the crank isn't damaged again. My plans are right now to just change out to Exedy Triple as I was making 520whp/480wtq on VD and running out of fuel pump. Buy new bolts (should I get OEM again?) and use red loctite this time and I also thinking about using safety wire. I also still have my own crankshaft pulley and Balance shafts have been removed. I want to upgrade to the fluidampr crankshaft pulley also before I get the car going again.

Thoughts everyone? Any suggestions? I don't want this to happen again!

Red Loctite. Ensure bolts and crank are perfectly clean. Loctite even sells a "primer" to help the thread locker adhere better. OEM or ARP flywheel bolts should be fine. Safety wire definitely won't hurt as long as you do it right. If you do it wrong, the bolts can come loose enough to cause damage, but not loose enough for you to notice until it's too late.

Definitely going to use red loctite this time. I used new OEM bolts. I will look into that primer thing also.

as long as your safety wire puts tension on the bolt in the "tighten" direction, then you good.

Thanks. Do you think The fluidampr pulley will help at all in regards to this also?

Flywheel Bolts Backing Out

No. Your having issues with secondary harmonics, which are only resolved by balance shafts.
