Clutch pedal assembly fracture

So I noticed the pedal movement was not linear and advised the shop while it was in for other service. Had not been that way for long. Initially they noticed the right side of the bracket had a crack. After removing the pedal assembly they akso noticed a large separation in the firewall at the weld. So every time I depressed the clutch the soft uneven movement was the wall flexing. They never heard of this happening to an Evo, only subys. The tech took pictures but I forgot to have them sent to me. Anyone else heard of this happening? I have an upgraded clutch but its only an Exedy stage 1 HD. Not like I was pressing down on a race clutch putting great stress on the clutch pedal assembly and firewall!

this is the second thread I've seen tonight on this. It does look like it happens and also other's may be diagnosing clutch shifting issues without checking this failure first..

How much miles do you have on the pedal? looks like this is happening around 115k to 125k range. The solution seems to be to reweld the chassis bracket together and purchase a new clutch pedal assembly.

I'm at 130k miles and yes that is the only solution for the problem. Sucks because the entire dash needs to be removed to weld it up. Hopefully in the short time driving the car with this issue the clutch/tranny wasn't damaged in some way. Only know after the repairs. Knowing how Mitsubishi is impossible with doing service bulletins their could be many others out there with this issue being repaired at owners cost when possibly this is a manufacturing defect. Still can't figure out how ACD failures wasn't a recall but that's a separate subject to ***** about lol.

yeah the same exact thing happened to me now my evo and its just sitting in my driveway and I am so sad, I was wondering if it was even possible to get that metel piece welded back together since it is so tight under the dash but now after reading this thread I'm guessing it is possible to get the metel bracket fixed by removing the whole dash but it is possible, so there is hope! Thank god ! So erractivevo 666, after you got the piece welded back how is the weld holding up?

Weld has held up without any issues. The mechanic was able to weld it back without removing the dash but I think in a previous career he must of been a contortionsist for the circus. I have put on about another 12k miles and show no signs of issues with the clutch either which is a great thing also. Good luck to you.

I'm glad to hear that your car is still running fine after the weld, I'm just hoping and praying that my mechanic can get the job done but I don't know if he knows how to take the dash out? Thanks for the feed back and help! And if by any chance your macanic is in washington state please let m e know!

It can be welded without removing the dash but it's not easy. Otherwise, removing the dash and reinstall is several hours of labor I was told. I'm located in New Hampshire so my mechanic is no help to you unfortunately.

Holy ****, I'm glad I found this.

I'm totally checking for this now.

I've had a car once where I cracked the dash and it had some strange pedal feeling.
Now, my evo has a very similar non linear hitch in the stroke and I was like WTF no way! I've never heard of this issue on an Evo, so I didn't bother to check ......yet

Now I have to check it out, I bet its my problem too.
