Evo 9 Cam Gear Rattling? Help!! Video Inside

So lately I've been having this on cold starts but now it happens even when the engine is at operating temp. It sounds like something is rolling around in the MIVEC cam gear. Is that even possible or does anybody know what this could be?

Thanks

Don't know what it is but I think you should start tearing apart to see before something bad possibly happens

Well I'm not gonna run it so I won't be messing anything up and I don't want to start tearing things apart ***** nilly unless I have some kinda clue as to what it could be.

Surely someone else on here has had the same issue?

EDIT: Does anybody know if something could be loose inside the MIVEC cam gear? It sounds like it's coming from there but sound does travel so I'm not 100% sure.

Tearing it apart all ***** nilly.....LOL

you are talking about something in your Mivec gear not right. If that fails you will be rebuilding your head and spending tons of money.
Just pull your timing belt and take the gear off.
IMO you are being pretty stupid by not wanting to tear into it. There IS something not right in there and you aren't going to fix it without getting in there anyway.

Beautiful. Thanks man. I just wasn't positive if there was anything internally that could break or wiggle loose and rattle around.

Thanks again man.

I'll check back in if a new MIVEC gear fixes the issue.

UPDATE: Problem ended up being due to a bolt backing out of the water pump and bouncing around inside the water pump pulley.

Thanks to the previous shop...won't even mention them by name, they don't deserve it.

Bump from the dead- my car has the same issue. Gonna do a timing job on it this weekend to see if it's the same thing. Will post results.
