6 speed to 5 speed

I have a 2005 Evo 8 MR. Just blew the trans, 4th gear is gone. I'm amidst converting to the 5 speed trans and was wondering to those of you who have done it, what exactly is the issue with the center console? I want to retain the MR shift bezel/center console. What exactly is the problem? Clearance? I want to try to work around it. Thanks!

Really? If so, that's great! Exactly what I wanted to hear. But my confusion lies in reading up on people having problems with 2-4-R? The rear-most gears in the gearbox? Something about the boot or maybe hitting the console, I'm not sure.

You will need 5 speed shifter base because 6 speed has safety ring for reverse.also you will need 5 speed cables cause 6 speed are longer by approx 2". The console itself is fine.
