Max horsepower for my evo?
I have an 03 evo 8 2.3 gsc stage 3 beehive valve springs, fax s2 cams 274/272 billet, forged wiseco pistons, with a stock 9 turbo I know its ridiculous to put a stock 9 turbo on a built motor but I just needed a quick cheap turbo to drive around in for the mean time.
Anyways just got back from the road race and it dynoed at 421HP and 444tq on e 85 which isn't at all that bad. So I took it for a cruise and it pulls pretty good but I want more power already and I know my car can push the hp I was just curious on turbos that can with stand up to 700 to the 800 HP range.and that would be best for car thank-you.

Do you know what rods are in it? If it has regular eagle or manley hbeams, you'll want to keep the torque under 550. Since you're in cali, you need a stock appearing turbo. An MHI red will do 550-600, and a black will do around 650.

What does it matter if I'm in Cali or anywhere else it's still a built car what does it matter about having a bigger turbo and I feel I can get more power from the black so that's more where I'm leaning towards.

Your car won't pass smog if your turbo doesn't look stock. I didn't say what turbo to get, I said you need a stock appearing turbo. And said what the red and black make in the MHI twin scroll housing.

You gonna change the turbo every time you smog it? Or when CHP pops the hood? Manley hbeams can only handle around 550wtq. You will not be able to max out the black on them, it will be a little torque limited. I would get an MHI red. excellent spool and response, and 550-600whp. Awesome turbo.

For Cali and Manley rods, you are going to want a Red I think. Maybe even the new HTZ Green, which is a 57# a minute turbo. Going from a 9 turbo to the Black you may not be happy. And stuff typically starts breaking when you go over 600.
When I went from my White Rabbit to the OG FP Green, there was a noticeable difference in lag. I wish I had the White Rabbit insta-spool, but I'll be good with my Red and 2.3. Full spool at around 4,000 rpms or so.
