ANOTHER oil weight question. Pls help

Just finished my 2.4 build. Polished factory crank, standard acl bearings, balance shaft delete. Running 10w-40 right now, at 500 miles and ready to change again. Was looking at 20w-50 for the next change. I'm in alabama, so the weather is never getting below 20 and will start warming up soon. With the 10w-40 I have around 18-20psi oil pressure at warm idle. Off the gauge on cold starts. Should I go ahead and switch to 20w-50 or stay with the 10w-40. Car is also running factory 8 turbo.

10w40 seems fine. 20psi at idle is excellent pressure. What were your bearing clearances when it went together? Were the balance shafts deleted? Did you have the block machined for piston oil squirters and put them in?

I see between 22 and 30psi of pressure on idle both with 5w40 and 15w50.

The main difference is that with 5w40 the pressure stays around 20psi while warming up and then stabilize at 30psi when fully warmed.

With 15w50 oil the pressure fluctuates a lot between 18 and 30 psi until fully warmed. Then it stays at 30psi.

My engine has 8000mi since rebuilt. Brand new crank, acl bearings, balance shafts deleted, kiggly hla, map oil cooler, stock oil thermostat, carrillo rods and 86mm je pistons. Stock oil pump. Clearances are all OEM except on the cylinders because the forged pistons. I rev it up to 8100rpm constantly. Runs great!

I will have to go look up my bearing clearences. I didn't see your guys replys till this morning. I actually got the 20w-50 in it last night. Cold start is off the gauge lol. Full warmed up idle I'm getting usually around 15psi pressure now, and 65-80 crusing. Balance shafts are deleted.
