Valvetrain Question
What's going on guys, trying to get some answers here. I'm in the process of building my engine and was looking to upgrade my Valvetrain but before I did I wanted to know is it necessary to change out the stock cables when upgrading the cams? I will be ordering the gsc s2 cams if the the Kelford 272 cams. Should I replace the valves? And if so with which company, supertech....bc....Gsc...?? Thanks

Valves are cheap, I would go with GSC since it's apart. Standard size since you're not porting the head. They're less than $300. It's a good idea with upgraded springs.

Do the stock valves actually ever go bad? The stock exhaust are sodium filled (I think) and quite light. None of the aftermarket ones seem to have these features. That leads to needing to run a stiffer spring, more wear, and possibly less knock tolerance due to the hot valve face.
After replacing lots of stock parts with aftermarket, I find the stock stuff was often better...

They don't go bad, but they're also not designed for the increased spring rates of aftermarket springs, or faster ramp rates of aftermarket cams.

My valves ...springs...retainers actually have nothing wrong with them, my car just hit 92,000miles and I'm replacing the head gasket and timing belt, but since the head is being sent to a machine shop. I wanted to put cams , and upgrade my valvetrain while everything is apart.

I don't think you need to upgrade the stock valvetrain with S2 cams...I could be wrong on that, though.
R2's you definitely need an upgraded valve train and you need the firmer GSC beehive springs.
SuperTEch has a sodium filled exhaust valve, but it's only available in +1mm size. Unless you run a huge turbo, you probably want to use a stock sized exhaust valve.

You should install springs for S2's so you can raise the rev limit. GSC only recommends stock springs on S2's for stock rev limit and stock boost.

Yeah I've surpassed the stock boost limit a while ago, I'm boosting 30lbs. So my next question is when will I need to replace my stock valves??
