6 speed and 5 speed transmission question

Hi, new to this website and have a few questions on this topics. If there has been a tread/post posted? plz leave a link on that tread to this tread. I dont want post ***** if some one has already made a thread about. I search around the website a little bit saw nothing. If not then the questions is that which of this two will hold power around 500+? when about around this hp/tq level do any axles snap/break? What drive shaft? and what about 1-5 gear? or 1-6 gears? Will be getting a evo 7-9 soon and would like to know ahead time to get parts ready for street/drag for this car. Thanks every one for the help and info!

If you want to be serious about drag racing and generally being hard on the gearbox, go with a 5 speed. Everything else will be fine.

There is no correct single answer. You're question has many variables which can determine your answer. For example, current power output and how frequently you beat on your stock transmission. Best bet is to upgrade your transmission sooner than later, if not wait until it starts acting up and go from there.

Jacks transmissions also offers stronger gear sets for the 6 speed. They are currently sold out though and not sure when they will be getting more in. Here is a link.

Jacks also has other options if you go with a 5 speed.

i have yet to see a 6 speed tranny last on a road course track, even at 300 whp level. they all end up converting to 5 speed after the 6 speed is destroyed. if you end up doing a lot of track events. if you're only going to do a couple a year, should be fine.
