JDM Evo 4 power steering pump rebuild
This is a boring topic I know; but having an Evo IV engine set in the states has proven to be difficult to deal with when parts go bad. I recently had a seal on my power steering pump perish causing power steering fluid to leak everywhere including down the support bracket into the timing area and getting my timing belt wet with oil. (bad deal) Trying to find a replacement stateside proved impossible as the Evo 4 power steering pump Mitsubishi part no MR197568 doesn't cross to any other Mitsu's. My last resort before ordering a pump from overseas (which would possibly have the same issue and take weeks to get here) was to try looking for a rebuild kit for the pump I have. The pump is a standard KYB unit, so even though I couldn't find a kit specifically for this car, with a little providence and looking at countless kits out there I was able to find the right kit to rebuild this pump! It's Gates no 348840 for some Dodge, Chrysler, and Eagle cars. (Mitsu wasn't listed haha! Even though the other companies basically are part of Mitsu lol) Hope this helps some folks out! Especially with the older Evo's coming closer and closer to the magic 25 year mark. I didn't take any pictures of the rebuild process sadly. Needed the car back together. It's an easy rebuild though. I will say that there is a funky molded gasket that I though would be impossible to find and the one in the kit is exactly the right fit. Every gasket in the kit worked perfectly; so I can without a doubt say that this is the proper kit for that pump. Hope this proves useful to someone out there!

Back when Chrysler started making the minivan they first used VW engines then almost immediately switched to Mitsubishi engines. These vehicles are still showing up on the DIY fixit forums with 300 to 400 K miles. Their V6 was a good engine.

I bought my JDM Evo swap for my 2003 model from http://www.bestjapaneseengines.com/ and I'm glad I took that decision.

Evo 4 power steering pump.
I was inspecting my serpentine belt are and noticed that the evo 4 power steerin pump had some play in it. Is this normal for these pumps. It does not seem to have a bearing or anything. It basically pushes in and out ever so slighly. I was wondering because it seems to grind against the wall of its mount. I have play in a near by pulley that will need to be replaced that might be pulling on it and causing this rubbing but want to make sure im not missing a spacer or something that keeps this from happening.
