Best gearing for big turbo???

Trying to go fast but I'm not the smartest when it comes to the technical stuff.

Quick run down of the car: built motor, lots of fuel, 6266bb, stock drivetrain (save clutch)

I'm planning on running the half mile later this year and I want to trap mid 170's but i'm not sure if the stock gear ratio is going to do it for me. More so, when it comes to freeway pulls, what is the best ratio to optimize the turbo?

I'm also toying with the idea of grabbing a 6870 next year maybe, so yea, thoughts?

Evo 9 1st. Evo 8 2-5. 4.11 or 4.08 or 4.00 final drive.
Talk to your transmision builder and he will guide you in the right direction. I spent good hour talking with Jon at TRE when I got my trans built by him. Went with 4.11 final drive. Evo 9 1st and Evo 8 2-5.

Your stock gearing should get you there , as long as your power level is 800 range dynojet. 170+ seems easy but its not, your 2.0 will help too if you rev it out.

I know I have the guts to get there. Car makes over 700whp on a mustang dyno. My only thing is I don't want to be WOT in 5th gear for that long. Does it really make a difference as opposed to having a taller 3rd and 4th? Are those gears stronger in general? Forgive my noobness lol I just drive the thing.

I've got a 4.11 and unless you have a 2.2/2.3/2.4 It will be harder to start the car off and slow the car down from a standing start. Now from a roll, or cruising its great. Driving a big turbo 2.0 around town with a 4.11/4.0 would suck IMO.

If you do get a 4.11 (10% taller) set then get the shorter Evo 8 first gear so its easier to start off.
No matter how tall you go , you need to shift 5th gear. A JDM 5th gear is short (.825 vs .76/.72) You want the car to accelerate hard and work the gearbox for the halfmile

Here are a few options to think about.

Stock 4.53 with Evo 9 first, Evo 8 3rd/4th and JDM Evo 5th 0.825 If you run a 25.5 or so tire that will take you over 190 @8500 or so shifting into 5th.

4.31 final (5% taller then stock) Evo 8 First, Evo 8 3rd/4th JDM 5th.

Now if you are into drag racing just do the math on the ratios, gear and tire that let you cross the line in 4th near redline. Changing tire size can also help to go up or down.

I have a few sets of wheels. My street tires are 255-40-17 25" , My drag/autocross tires are 245-35-17 24.3" That is a 5% change . The car is alot easier to get going and the gears are short(at least to me) I prefer the 25" tire for around town stuff. I've gone 11.0@130 and 11.1@131 at 600whp full weight leaving at 8-10psi. My car is a little slow for that power. It also has a 6 puck clutch that won't take a hard launch.

Sidenote, if you are drag the car and it goes over 150mph some people have gone to the 4.11 and a 24.5" slick to take some of the tire sway out of it. Comparing it to a 4.53 /26"

Thanks man! That helps clean things up immensely. I don't really plan on drag racing my car for awhile but I wanted to attend the transmission next year to really maximize my setup. I appreciate the guidance!
