Wiseco or CP pistons..which do you prefer ??
hi guys,
could really use some help. i am in the process of all the forged bits ready for my engine build. i will be staying 2.0L and i have the choice of using either Wiseco or CP pistons. which do you like? i hate the sound of piston slap..so CP's dont really appeal much..but i know they are reliable. on the other hand..Wisecos are quieter..but my engine builder says he prefers CP and he's had a few wisecos fail... :/
my build is nothing fancy..i plan to use PTE 6262, 95oct pump gas and as much boost as possible. what is your recommendation ?
Any "personal" feedback greatly appreciated. i am leaning towards the Wisecos.
Any opinion on ROSS pistons? i have a fully built drag drag car (different vehicle platform) with ROSS pistons/pauter rods and its solid. so willing to consider ROSS for Evo build too.

Wiseco, they have more silicon in them an attribute which helps a lot with expansion and thus they have far less side slap, and better operating characteristics in general.

If you go with wiseco, get an HD series piston. Either option (wiseco or CP) will be fine.

thanks for the feedback thus far guys. wiseco HD seems like a good option. anyone know who has the best price for them? i've check STM, real street & Map. seems to retail around $630-640 for the set.
do the HD's come by default with the coating? i think they do..but i am unsure.

thank you for all the helpful replies gents...really appreciate it. i think HD's are what i will most likely go with unless a set of JE's come by really cheap...if so i'll just have to live with piston slap lol

You shouldn't have piston slap if your piston to wall clearance is set properly.

You need to torque plate it. It's worth the money if the machine shop you use doesn't have one for the 4G. Plus if you buy one, let the machine shop know that you'll rent it out to someone if they need a torque plate for a 4G in the future. It might pay itself off eventually.

thanks guys...yes been reading up on the difference it makes to the machining process. i have my own machine shop...i will give it a shot at machining a plate for the 4g63. looks fairly straight forward.

The full round std pistons are prone to cracking starting at around the 550-600whp level. And the HD's are only $535 from ExtremePSI...
