That's a problem. Need to take it apart and see whats going on. That looks like the htrust bearing main, thrust washer is probably toast, as well as the crank.

If there were no symptoms, why was an inspection performed?

Feel the pain there if this assy has to come apart

If there wasn't a problem, I don't know if its an issue.. Yeah, it looks like heat build up-- but I would think it would cause the bearing to fail if it was a problem.. As stated earlier--you took this apart because...?

i bought this engine from an engine builder in my area. I saw the car started up and it sounds great which is when i decided to buy it. Every parts in the engine were rather new.

The reason i opened up the crankcase was just to snap pics (excitement of having a fully forged internals) of the internal parts before i decided to transfer the engine to another evo body that i have. This is when i noticed these sort of rainbow burning marks.

The engine builder who sold me the engine said it shud be ok to use as it's just a slight burn and that he had already replaced new bearings, however, i'm still worried and i need advise on what should i do. should i just return it back?

4b11slayer: yes i'm using a twindisk.

The reason i ask is because ive seen damaged crank and thrust washer on a evo 8 with low miles and had a twin disk. No other theory but maybe unwanted pressure from a non adjusted clutch pedal. If the engine builder is saying he knows about it, a its ok or b he flipped a coin and idk that i would want that.

^you're thinking push style hydraulic bearing clutch not properly cleared that could push on the flywheel, crank...etc?

good suspicion!

The first thing I'd do is check crank end play. If that is out of spec. I suggest returning the car to the seller.

Hi Barney, would you be able to elaborate more on this?
