Timing Belt snapped
Hi everyone, so my timing belt snapped last night and I have no clue what should I do now. The engine have been built recently and the timing belt is night. Before the belt snapped i have a code which say is too rich and every the code appear the belt snapped on the freeway. I would love to ask if anyone here have experience and what should I expect to work on. I am going to pull out the head by next Friday, so what should I look for and what would be may estimate to fix it. thank you

If you didn't drop a valve then you might get away with a head rebuild with a new valve train. If you did drop a valve you will likely need a complete rebuild, possibly involving new pistons and even a new block if it cant be bored out further. Sorry this happened to you, I would go back to your engine builder and see what they can do for you. Did you get some kind of warranty on the rebuild you had done recently?

as above, I hope you didnt drop a valve... stock valves like to break unfortunately..
if the valves are only bent then you will need
1. valves
2. guides (stock ones like to break)
3. maybe some of the cam followers broke (happened to me)
4. if the follwers flew off maybe they damaged the cams (happened to me)...
as you can see, it can get expensive..

You can easily pull the valve cover to survey the damage. If you see valves missing and springs all loose you will know you dropped a valve.

Thank you for the picture, I am worry about the most is the piston because I seen a lot of people say it will damage piston. I am fine if to only rebuild the head but i don't really want a engine rebuild again lol.

yes, accessory, not balance shaft belt...
I did a bit of damage to the aux belt pulley when I did the cambelt change..
this in turn started damaging the aux belt.. I was aware of this and ordered a new pulley, but had to wait for it for a few weeks..
the belt broke longitudinally and half of it went between the main pulley and cambelt cover, broke trough the cover and wrapped around the main cambelt pulley.
you can see it wrapped around in the pic
the cambelt did not break, but was slipping around the crank..
the balance shaft belt was pristine..
freak case and in retrospect I should have changed the aux belt every week.. the incident happened at about 30 mph in town..
