Wanting to know the general safe torque limit on an OEM 4G64 crank. Anyone have good or bad experiences to share and which if any of the aftermarket 100mm forged cranks are a viable substitute. Not looking to shell the $ for a billet.
Not sure what limit you are seeking but I rocked a 4G64 block and stock crank with upgraded forged pistons and rods. This was on a 4G63 stock MIVEC head. The numbers
are from a low reading Mustang dyno. This was an FP green 1st gen turbo. Slightly larger then a stock turbo so the torque hit is hard and early. This type of combo has proven to be more detrimental to rods, pistons and internals due to the fast hit of a stock turbo as apposed to a larger more laggy GT35 turbo. The only failure that I heard this car had later was a head gasket problem a year or so after I sold it.
Im suprised you got any traction. Im on a much larger frame v-band turbo with 4.11 fd so my torque wont come on strong till later. Over 500ft lbs that early is no joke though so they must be good for at least 500.
