You sure you want that big of a turbo? What's your end desire (max HP, drag racing, etc.)?

Personally, I'd go with a GT2835 - spools closer to stock, still good for 400+ HP...

One day... Ahhhhh

if you only want to hit 11's you dont need a turbo deck out your stoick one and you will be fine... I want to go faster so I will probably end up with the GT35R from AMS they seem to have it worked out really well... not much more lag and much more power...

This is easy. What is your power goals (at the minute)? For up to 400bhp then stick with the stock turbo. Id get a ball bearing conversion as this will make the thing spool faster than stock and turn into a lag less blower for little cash. Guys in the UK are running them at up to 2.3 bar and making VERY good figures from them!

500whp+ then I would go for the GT30R (basically a HKS 3037 but with a different flange I think). Very good turbo with good spool up (a few hundred behind standard) with very little lag if set up right (high lift cams, no overlap, good timing etc). The best suppliers for this would be AMS or RnR. This turbo will work on strockers but is a bit small for the big 2.3ltrs. Should still make 500whp at 1.6ish bar. Ideal for a street turbo.

For 600whp + then go for the GT35R (or if you using a strocker kit of 2.3ltr). A few hundred rpm behind the GT30R in spool up but (as the AMS vid clip show) can be virtually lag less with the right set up! This is similar to the HKS 3240 but has a lager on the exhaust side. This helps with back pressure especially on strockers. One guy in the UK was running a 3240 on a 2.3ltr and could only run 1.7bar but had 2.5bar back pressure. On smaller strockers (such as JUN 2.2) then it is less of a problem. Norris Design managed 800bhp on the 3240 and at only 2.1bar. RnR is running a GT35R on there 4G64 hybrid and say they are very impressed.

The alternative to the above are hybrids. You could go for a GT2830 on say a 2.0ltr to have very good spool up and only a slight reduction in the top end power. Same goes for the GT3040.

People often run far too big turbos for the cars. The comments are usually “I want that thump in the back”. You can still get that on a smaller blower, you just have to run a higher boost pressure. Both the Garrett turbos can run at 2.0bar + all day long and the stock blower will give 2.3 bar if really pushed. Piper ran an bb stock RS turbo in the demo car ant at 1.6 bar it was making 39?bhp and 400lbs ft of torque.

Hope this helps and any more questions just ask.

Thanks Chris.

I like the GT35r, I have it on my car and I think it's great, spool-up isn't too bad with the right tune and set of cams.

Over here he is probably the best engine builder for the Evo. There are companies that have more powerful cars (RC Developments have an Evo with 826bhp I think!!!!!), but nobody has a bad word to say about him. He should be able to run more power (now he has the fuel delivery 2 x 700cc per cylinder) as he ran 771bhp at 2.5bar so there is a little more left in the turbo if it can handle the flow!

Chris.

ive got both

gt3240 the ultimate road, track and drag turbo

problem with me was im the first to use a 2.3 stroker with a gt3240 and it wasnt cool coz of the housing on the gt3240 at 1.7 bar i made 2.5 bar back pressure

if i had a 2.2 it was the best i made 610 bhp and officially 550 ft torque and not 511 like i thought with 2.5 bar back pressure and 1600 cc injectors i lost more power so going down to 1200 cc

would have been over 700 with race fuel that day so now i have a modified gt3540 to test with 2 housings 106 and a 0.82

i wanted to keep my gt3240 it was fully spooled up before 4000 revs the way simon norris done my engine it is the best.

but couldnt get a bigger housing from hks or garret to fit so had to go bigger

so both are cool but gt3240 is awesome

here is a previous video with a basemap and running less ignition for safety while running in

http://www.lancerregister.com/showth...threadid=42350

it made 610 bhp at 1.7 and 2 bar loadsa restriction coz of back pressure

hopefully now will be sorted with using a bigger housing

and it was alot more torque than that, dyno had the wrong torque setting coz it was new and my engine was the first one on it
