The way you can tell your ecu is reset, is it will start to idle at about 1600 rpm for a bit while the ecu adjusts fuel and timing. But from the symtoms you said it almost sounds identical to my freinds problem.

Ive had mine not reset from doing that. I disco the battery on mine for about 20 sec hooked it back up and wasnt reset . So just FYI sometimes there will be some left over juice somewhere.

Thanks again for the suggestions; resetting the ECU didn't help, and I pulled out the pump and double-checked everything, but it all seemed to be in order. I contacted the company I bought it from (lancershop.com) and they were really cool about it, they're sending out a new one. I'll update with results after I install it...
