Sigh. After a long and hard look, and many many hours of consideration, i probably won't go with the 3071 turbo anymore.
I spoke with Vishnu the other day, and from what i understand, Shiv wasn't too happy ith the 3071 b/c it lags about as much as the 3037 but makes nowhere near the power.
Maybe ill try Buschurs stock turbo upgrade and have Shiv tune it.

AMS also use the 3071 but their figures seam high, they state 575hp on that, don’t know how but they also state 650hp for the 3076 which to me is the 3037. On their page they state spool to be 3000-3600 rpm on the 3076 and 3200-3800 on the 3071 but I guess they must have mixed those up cause if that’s correct there should be no reason to go for the 3071.

Yes Thomas, I just noticed the spool up numbers yesterday, they where mixed up when they where put up on the website. The numbers on the website are crank hp and figure about 15-17% loss. The numbers also represent the maximum the turbo will support.

PS. BTW, I like the 3071. It's certainly the least laggy of the upgraded turbo options on the market for the EVO. I think the confusion comes from the fact that my personal preference is the 3037. It's my opinion that if you are going to do a turbo upgrade, do one that *just* meets your boost response requirments and has the highest flow potential. From what I've seen, the 3037 fits this bill for most customers (and myself). Not all, but most that i have seen. Yes, it does spool up ~300rpm later than the 3037. However, it's transient boost response at engine speeds well above the boost theshold (say 5000rpm) is extraordinary and on par with the factory turbo and far ahead of any of the old-school non GT turbos from the T-series family. It's basically a big turbo that behaves, in my ways, like a small turbo. That's what makes it so unique, IMHO.

Shiv, are either one of these turbos (the 3071 and the 3037) adequate if I only plan on running 91 octane all the time? Or would the compromise in lag be much more than the benefit of the extra power ?
