Engine Tick??

Every once in a while when I turn off the car (I always let it cool down so its not that) it get a faint sound from the motor that sounds like a valve slap. It's a faint tick tick (it only goes tick twice if it does it at all). I know my oil is ok cause I just changed it last week. This has happened like two or three times. Just curious if anyone knows what it might be or if anyone else has this happen. Later gator. lol.

pushrod? these motors are dohc and not ohv so there is no pushrods becasue the cam gears and belts move the cams. do you mean the main rods? (the ones that connect the crank to the pistons). thanks.

What kind of pushrod? OHC engines don't use them for valves.

Is it a heat shield? I know sometimes on my Saturn or moms Jimmy, dads blazer, brothers dodge ram 1500 after driving for awhile when you shut it off after a minute or so you hear a noise which is a heat shield.

My Evo has only been on one trip but I haven't noticed it. I'm thinking probably exhaust manifold heat shield. The sheet metal shield.

Not being a smartass just for correct terms those are connecting rods. They connect the pistons to the crank hence the name.

That's the downpipe, exhaust, or something cooling down after being heated. It amkes that sound when cooling. Should be normal.

I said OHV not OHC. lol. and it may be a heat shield but it happens right as soon is the key is turned off and the motor stops and its not like the sound that metals make as they cool.

No offense taken. I knew what they were called but I was having a brain cramp at the time I wrote it and plus my dog just woke up and kept hitting the keys so I was preoccupied with getting her to stop. lol.

Thanks for all and any suggestion.

Its the valves... All new cars make the valve knock... If its really noticeable then yeah your either low on oil, or your valvetrain is messed up.

Yeah, my friends had our cars all lined up and they all made loud ticking noises. You should listen to a typeR integ or celica GTS engine. They tick like crazy///
