5th gear grinding, or tranny problems?

Hello everyone,

My Evo is currently down and in quite a few pieces. I have 34K on my car. Can anyone top that? With the stock clutch no less! Here is my problem, I started getting a grind in 5th gear, brought it to the dealer to check out. They said they would pull it apart, but I had to understand that I could ultimately be responsible for the repair?! I said no problem because my car has been taken care of properly, and not abused. The Service Manager stated that the Regional Warranty Manager (unsure of her title) would look at it and determine if it will be covered or not. Has anyone had any experiences like this or any warranty work done to their EVO? Or experienced any grinding within the tranny?

The service manager stated that the synchros were beveled and look like it was speed shifted! Speed shifted 5th gear?!

There is a tsb out on the 5th gear syncro. They have to do the work under warranty, as long your car still has a warranty on it. Point them to the tsb if they try to deny you coverage under warranty.

i have only 7500 miles, and my 5th gear synchro went bad. Dealer advised they are aware of the problem. They covered it with no questions asked.

Yeah, I had it fixed under warranty (they knew of the TSB) with about 10k miles on the car.. There's a few threads on this if you search.. but its a known issue, but not a recall. But they should fix it under warranty if you have the problem.
