Heat Shield for Oil Pan, w/downpipe

anyone make a stick on heat shield or something to protect it from the heat a downpipe puts on it. Something beside wrap for the pipe itself?

Most likely it is the ThermoTec material. After a month or so the fiberglass will separate from the adhesive layer leaving a plastic material stuck to your oil pan (or whatever you stick it to.)

Basically either get a down pipe that has sufficient room between the pipe and the oil pan or coat the pipe.

Does anyone else sell a kind that won't separate, or can anyone confirm that Buschur's will/won't?

Bump!

Why not wrap it? It will help keep the heat in witch will in turn keep the velocity of the gas higher. Keeping the velocity higher will help flow thru the cat. I wrapped mine with the kit from DEI and then painted it with thier silicone spray to protect the wrap.

Great on a race car but it will compromise longevity of the exhaust, especially on a street car.

My Buschur stick on shield has been in place for months and no separation. Sticks well.

sincityevo keep us posted, i wonder if buschur gives any kind of warranty on this like 1 year or so. would suck if this splits after just a few months.

According to Dave (Buschur) there it is not a problem to wrap it but it may not be the case. I guess if I were going to trust anybody he would be one.

To clarify, the shield is a stick on foil type sheet that is about an eighth of an inch thick. It sticks directly to the oil pan and helps shield some heat from the downpipe that is close by. There's nothing to warantee.

No, they are talking about exhaust wrap. Instead of getting the stick-on piece for the oil pan, wrap the DP with exhaust wrap.

The lay up of the ThermoTec material is something like,

Al foil, glue, fiberglass mat, glue, plastic sheet, glue

Does this match what you have or is it something different? (read should we all go off and buy what you have?)

Note that with the ThermoTec material, the fiberglass mat / plastic sheet interface is what lets go. This suggests that the Al foil reflects more heat than is transferred off of the pan. I expected the AL foil / fiberglass mat to go first, that is if anything failed.
