Which FMICs are a direct fit?
I'm wondering which aftermarket FMIC setup will fit above the splash guard plastic panels of an Evo8 and don't require any cutting/bending modifications? I like the Buschur FMIC but it sits so low that the stock panels won't fit on the car without cutting/bending mods. Would it be possible to mount something like the Buschur or AMS higher without creating radiator air flow issues or other problems. The reality is that a lot of these FMICs are not "SCCA legal" (i.e., not legal in Street Prepared category) because they are not a direct fit.
BUSCHUR -- please reply about whether your FMIC would function properly and fit in the car if the brackets and tubing were modified to raise it up. I know someone who could do the fabrication, but am not sure about whether the end product would work.
Thanks!

AMS would probably be the best for what you want... The Buschur FMIC is the only part they make that I disagree heavily with. Someone has already bumped a parking stop and ran the tow hook through the core.

My own testing shows that a better than stock intercooler would be helpful. I'm also from the school that bigger (alone) does not necessarily mean that the efficiency is better.
The Pwr seems to have some merit but it is unclear if it mounts to the stock lower mounting points, or if it is just hanging from the top mounting point. The bottom of the Pwr part seems to have stock under tray mounting points.
I just haven't got around to dealing with this issue yet, but with summer here....

Ive had the Buschur for a while now and its nice. Its a direct fit except for one inch of plastic that has to be slightly bent to clear. As for the above person saying something about DOT legal, no need for that. You dont get tickets for not having DOT legal intercoolers(CARB is the concern), at least in california.

We have a template that we ship out of here now for cutting the under tray. It is not a huge deal. The FMIC sits flush with the bottom of the tray once it is cut. Other guys have just heated the undertray with a heat gun and bent it.
DOT legal. I would love to see the paper work for that. I say B.S. I don't know what would make any FMIC NOT DOT legal, sounds rediculous.
As for the tow hook, think about it, you ram into a curb and hit the tow hook. O.K., did you think about it? Why did you hit the curb in the first place? The tow hook is the lowest piece on the car, the FMIC was designed to sit about it. We did this entire design to get the extra cooling to the radiator from the upper two vents and expose as much of the FMIC to the air charge. The stock intercooler is hidden behind the plastic bumper, so are alot of other designs out there.
