I want BOV but not lumpy idle - possible?

I'm getting ready to buy the following items:

-Buschur turboback
-vishnu XEDE

I'm also interested in trying to do what I can to help minimize turbo lag between shifts, and I'm thinking a good BOV could help.

However, I've heard that the Evo's running BOV's vented to atmosphere like a Greddy Type S cause idle problems. I want to avoid this. Will the XEDE eliminate this problem?

How can I get the quickest turbo response with an aftermarket BOV (vent to atmos) without having idle problems?

I've tried searching the board but could not find the answer.

Thanks in advance

don't vent to astmosphere and you won't get the lumpy idle. It's that simple.

Def,

If you're worried about stalling and don't want to convert to a MAP sensor, go with a recirculating valve like the Type S or a crushed 1G BOV.

If you're dead-set on getting something that vents to atmosphere, look into a dual port BOV like the Turbosmart or GFB units. You can tailor the amount of air you want blown off and how much you want put back into the inlet pipe to make the MAF happy.

I'm getting the Turbosmart Dual Port installed tommorow so I'll tell you how it goes. My stocker is leaking like a hooker with the clap.

A BOV won't really help in minimizing turbolag... it might help your car from leaking boost though. The stock units from what I've read are pretty good and dont always leak. Don't get any BOV that VTA's because you will stall and have idle problems.

The best BOV so far by what I've read is a Greddy Type-S Recirc... I dont have one on my car yet, because I havent seen a need to replace the stock one yet.

I'm not dead set on one that VTAs, it's just that I had a lot of trouble with various recirc BOVs on past cars. Probably user error.

Let me know how the Turbosmart unit works for you....I'm looking to buy ASAP and have some bonus money burning a hole in my wallet.

I have the greddy type s set up by RRE in Socal, it works great, maybe the best compared to all the aftermarket BOVs, but even this one exhibits slightly annoying characteristics from time to time.

i run the GFB Stealth F/X bov and i have no idle issues at all. it's a good sturdy piece that holds boost well. the ups about this bov is that is fully adjustable to recirc and to vta. or if a better quality piece is what you are after w/o the vta, just get the MR dv. you can find them both here > Gruppe-S

The Turbosmart is a direct drop in on an Evo, and you can adjust by hand w/o using any washers. And it won't give you a lumpy idle.

HKS has an EIDS unit out for the EVO that will allow you to run the VTA style BOV's on your car
