Hi,

I think you go back to the future! Are you looking for a calculated number based upon gear ratio's and RPM or someone who has been there, done that?

8600rpm on stock tire size is exactly 199.99mph in a US Evolution VIII. Sweet Lord, please be careful.

You can do the mph x 2 formula in any gear. In fact, you can do the MPH x 3 etc and then you just triple the mph.... We don't have a wierd automatic transmission with some high tech torque converter that varies rpms for optimal performance or mileage. It is just simple math.

The formula to figure your speed is
RPM X (TIRE CIRCUMFERENCE) / OVERALL GEAR RATIO / 1056

To get the tire circumference, take the tire width (in mm) 235, multiply that by .03937 to make it inches, multiply that by the aspect ratio of the tire (45), this is a percent so you will multiply the tire width 9.25195 x .45 which will give you the sidwall height 4.1633775. Multiply this times two (for the top and bottom of the tire and add the wheel diameter (17) 25.326755. This is the overall tire diameter. Take this and multiply by PI (3.14159) to get the circumfernce or rolling diameter.
For a stock Evo wheel / tire setup this is 79.566".

For your overall gear ratio multiply the final drive gear 4.529 times whatever gear you are in (5th in Evo is .72). This gives you a 3.261 overall gear ratio.

The 1056 constant just converts all of this to MPH

So what this all means is that at 7000 on a stock wheel / tire setup is 162 MPH!!!

Gerard, just wondering if you heard what a car would be like to drive at that speed, you know, hypothetically? Was it real shaky?

Maybe you were at 167 but your clutch was slipping??? Maybe your tachometer is off.

I've been clocked at 162 and it was no where near 8600 rpms.. it was right around 7... Smooth as glass...

(On a closed track of course!)
