Thumbs up EVO Clutch Alignment Tool TRICK

Nobody in my area had a clutch alignment tool specificaly for the evo. So, we went thru the old ones we had laying around the shop and found that the one for a late 80's early 90's 2.8 v6 Ford Ranger (the plastic kind that comes with the clutch kit) works perfectly. All you have to do is cut about 2 inches off the front guide so that it will align both discs if you have a twin disc.

Just thought it would be useful info.

When would you need this tool? What problem would it fix? Hard to get into gear at a stop? Engages too soon/too late?

(This will be confirmed very soon as I actually delve into my first EVO clutch shortly.) It's cross-referenced under a 1990 Ford Ranger (amongst others). The "Ford 20" was the tool I used in DSMs and was told that it was the same (7/8" and 20 splines), but I'm finding out differently. Either tool is available for a few bucks. I have both and can let you know which one actually fits

You are correct. 23 splines 1". I went to autozone and got the tool for a 90 ford ranger. I believe it was for 2.8 or2.9 liter. Anyway, all you gotta do is cut about 2" inches off it, leave enough of a nipple on it to get in the end of the crank. I used it this weekend and it worked like a charm for my exedy twin disc.

Matter of fact the package it cam in said for ford, mitsu., and chrysler.
