RS front LSD interchangable?

I am wondering if the 04' RS front diff is an interchangable part into the 03' open differential? It seems likt the factory option would be less expensive than an aftermarket. Thanks.

It'll bolt on, but I have questions about how the ABS computer will deal with it.

You can't actually order that Front LSD separately though, right? AFAIK the RS front diff is helical which = torsen, and which also means it should behave as an open diff on braking.

If you're going to swap diffs, why not get a quaife? The quaife will be stronger.

I sure wouldn't trust the words of someone who doesn't know that ABS would be unaffected by a helical differential. If someone has done this and posted their results in a thread here it's gone unnoticed by the community at larger.

UNTIL it's been done I wouldn't go out and buy the parts just yet. would the differential and axles be enough? who knows for sure.

the RS is stripped for rallying in Group N and you do not use ABS offroad. you might've read that you couldn't just bolt it on, but that second sentence sounds like speculation.

Funny you say that. I've FITTED the RS transfer case to my car. I'm not informed/educated enough on the subject, but others (with SAE certs) tell me there might be an issue. Thats not saying there will be a problem. I decided to hold off and do the research before I plunked my credit card down.

You have to order the whole transfer case to get the diff.

I don't want to speculate here either, although the guy at the parts counter told me that he ordered one of these for another EVO and he put it in without any problems. I will find out more soon. How much is the Quaife unit?

The dealer said this was an invalid part #. Are you sure this is correct?

Well, from what I've read so far, the reason there's no ABS on the RS is because of the (helical) front Diff. The reason mentioned was that the modern ABS isn't smart enough to work with it along with a rear Diff. That's why they added the Active Center Diff. for the '05 cars which somehow makes the ABS operable again. Don't know the details, just from what I read.

The ABS computer won't be able to deal with 3 limited slip diffs, thats why the RS loses the ABS. The '05 Evos get the electronic center diff, that is why they get the front limited slip, the computer does the work that the '03 mechanical center diff can't do, therefore making it able to work alongside the ABS system.

Where is everyone getting their information from saying that a front LSD won't work with ABS? Quaifes are helical diffs too and have been used for front diffs in many DSMs w/ ABS for years w/o issue. I don't see why the EVO would be any different. Otherwise, RRE wouldn't have gone through all the trouble to develop a front diff with Quaife for our cars.
