Bearings for Eagle rods in EVO8?
Hi guys,
I saw on the Eagle web page that you were supposed to use the 1990-1992 engine bearings for the Eagle rods on the EVO8 or any other 7 bolt 4G63 for that matter.
http://www.eaglerod.com/products/Mit...su%20rods.html
I have two friends who are running stock EVO bearings together with Eagle rods in their engines and they got very worried when we found this. As far as I know the difference is that the small tab that prevents the bearings from rotating is slightly narrower on the newer bearings and if you use them with the Eagle rods the bearings could move slightly side ways.
Anybody that knows more about this? What could be the worst case scenario?
Anybody that got the stock mitsu part # for those 1990-1992 engine bearings?
Thanks,

Hey, what did you end up doing about your exhaust?

What can happen and how big are the risks?

I ended up cutting my HKS Hiper before the neck down and welded on a full 3" flange, then we made a longer than stock cat delete pipe to cover up for the shorter cat back

You just need to be concerned with the amount of crush applied to the bearing shell. As far as the tang thickness goes, if there is the proper amount of crush, the bearing will be find.
Now who put the bearings in the rods? Ask him if everything felt normal. If you have the wrong shell going into a rod, he will know instantly, as long as he has built engines for a while.

Well, that’s one thing, two different guys put these two engines together both are experienced engine builders and neither one though anything seamed wrong. Or more correctly none of them reacted on that something felt strange or out of the ordinary. Still I can see these guys concern since what's written on the Eagle page.
As far as my engine goes I bought my Eagle rods from AMS and they supplied bearings as well so I assume they are the correct type? It was one of the guys who put one of the other two engines together that put mine together as well.

When we bought the eagle rods from Buschur about 5 months ago they were not machined and we didn't know that we should have used 1990-92 bearings..

Eagle said that they should change to the 90-92 year (1G?) bearings ASAP. The reason was as I said in the first post that the newer bearings could move slightly side ways due to the narrower "tab". This could then cause premature wear and failure.
