If you are going to run your EVO on the racetrack regularly, I would get an RS, unless you can afford an MR. If not, EVO VIII/GSR may be your best bet. More creature comforts than RS.

05 GSR is only slightly heavier and has front diff as well... plus you get all of the comfort features, ACD, ABS, etc. Only thing you would be missing is aluminum roof. However, in the latest Best Motoring DVD, they put 4kg cloth on the roof of MR and ran gymkhana course, and it was actually faster although slightly. However, they did say it felt better with aluminum roof.

All of these EVOs are pretty close in terms of performance. I went for low price and low weight with the '04 RS. Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with any new EVO.

One thing that really pisses me off about the RS is that you have to manually adjust the side mirrors.
I don't mind the loudness of the car, I don't mind the lack of headunit because I would've changed it anyway. The lack of a vanity mirror sucks though!!!

I have an RS and don't think anyone can tell the difference in interior sound levels between the RS and Evo 8. BTW, I'm selling my RS if anyone's interested...

The RS is wired for a stereo, and I had one installed. There are 4 places to put speakers with mesh covers over them, and an audio wiring harness covered by a plate in the dash. Installation was simple.
As someone else said, all USA RS models come with A/C and heat. I really don't care much about wind up windows, manual door locks and side mirrors. For the $26,100 I paid for a new '04 EVO RS, I think I got the best performance bargain on the planet.

features
manual door locks
if the doors are unlocked, do they have to be locked individually
or does the driverside serve as a master lock?
manual windows
is it possible to install a power window kit later on?
(even a "low-end" sys ..auto rolldown not necessary)
