Either way u look at it when the evo 8 came out people were waiting for 04's, but now the people who were waiting for 04's want the 05's. when the 05's come out people will want the 06................................................ .. I just say buy what u want and if you really want a MR sell your Evo privatly so you don't take such a beating for trade-in

Yes the evo with a few mods can surpass the MR but sometimes it is not about performance. Its about prestige. To be one of the handful of people that would be driving the MR. Plus if both cars were equally modded the MR would always fear better because of the roof.

Do you think a guy in a Ferarri who gets smoked by a econobox would care about it? I think not. Because at the end of the day he is driving a Ferarri. I know that this is a big deal for everyone here because they bought the Evo before knowing the MR was coming here and are now trying to justify your purchase. Fine. But the MR is still a better car and will always be. No matter how much Mitsu improve the Evo, the MR would be 2 or 3 or how much ever steps ahead of it. Ultimately do what you think and feel like doing. But don't forget that when you see that Mica purplish grey rolling by with that small but very significant MR badge on it take a picture of the look on your face as you drool and put it right over your bed so that you can see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night and then say to yourself "what a numb-nuts I was" You've been warned
All I can say is OMG. Evo for presige?

Let's try and think the opposite way
What is your face going to look like when a modded 03 kills you?
Childish way of thinking.

Some people here traded their M3s and more expensive cars for the Evo, some people could not care less about prestige however they do care about losing money since they know that few years down the road there will be better cars.
Stock for stock MR will be a better car. A far better car - no! Just better.
Noone here denies that. But selling the 03 to get an MR is a waste of money.
Those who can afford it will do it, there will always be a small percentage of those.
Will I drool over MR? No.
Would I get it if it came out when I was getting mine? Maybe.
I got mine for $28k. We're still to see how much MR is going to go for.

I paid the same for mine SOR and consider 28000+tt&l a bargain for my evo. There is no way the MR is going to be 300 lbs lighter with the specs they have give, absolutely no way! My guess is it will be 40-50 lbs lighter than the current 04 without sa sunroof, but considering the rs is 88 lbs lighter without all of the electronic goodies and hids etc.... there is no way a mr will be 200-300 lbs lighter. With that said, 40-50 lbs weight reduction and 5 hp 13 ft. lbs torque and better suspension and traction devices does not equate to 5-6000 dollars difference in performance no matter how much money you have (at least to me). Sure, I could afford to take the loss and get an MR, but why? Many of the only people who know what the hell an MR is are on this board, so prestige is not a factor with this car to the general public. If a track time of 1-2 or even 3 seconds better is crucial in your life, get the mr; however if you are like most of us and drive the 03 or 04 for excitement it does 95% of what a mr will do at 15-20% less, that value is the basis for my decision.
Stay safe,
Punisher

I guess the poll results speak for themselves i'm gonna follow the majority of the people on this board who said screw the trade and keep the EVO. It's nice to know what others were thinking

I've always said screw it because of all the mods, money and time I have spent on my Evo. I would like to test drive one for sure. I hope my area dealers will let me test drive one. I'm thinking not, but I do have the upper hand over the guy who doesn't currently own an Evo.

The MRs might actually have a little tougher time selling on two points, it will cost more, and 03s and 04s used will be available giving the option of getting an Evo for much less. And since it costs more and the average American will be impressed with it's bigger cup holder (sigh), the lack of cruise and heated side mirrors or dancing hip hop bugaloo navigation doo hickies might not find it as attractive. There are pros and cons on both sides of how well the MR will sell.

Nonsense, the MR will sell out based on its beverage conveyance merits alone.

yeah I agree the only reason why i'm trading my 2003 Evo is to get the bigger cup holder. HMM........ I wonder if the cup holder will make it faster.

Well, assuming that all the dash and center console bits are the same, think about it. A larger beverage cavity means that there's less mass. Therefore, the car weighs less. I figure a cupholder swap on an '03 is good for a full second in the 1/4 mile. I'd expect it to be a popular mod once the aftermarket cupholder tuners realize the obvious market potential.

I for one, welcome our new cupholder overlords...

Keep your evo. why do u need an MR? cuz it s faster? 6 speed? lighter? Unless if you guys race for a million dollars then go for the faster one........look once you guys have the MR, there s gonna be a new version of EVO 8 again... Mitsubishi company is smart...Once there MR are sold, they gonna release a new one again.

I'm trading in my 2003 Evo because when I had the Buschur stage 3 kit installed the mechanic f--ked up my car the cams were supposed to be a 4 hour job turned into a 12 hour job that ended up with a broken cam angle sensor oil leaks and other intermmiton problems. like I'm driving and everything is fine and then all of the sudden the car runs completely lean I'm like WTF and I have spent over 1,000 in mechanic fees and they can't figure out whats wrong with my car, so as soon as the MR comes in I'm trading my car in ,otherwise if everything went fine like it should have there would be no way that I would loose all of that $$$ by trading my Evo into the dealer. I will be just switching all of the parts off of my Evo onto the MR and I hope that everything will transfer. Other than that I will be suing the company for the lost money I have incurred

I'm actually considering trading up. I could care less about a smallish weight savings or new wheels that I don't really like, but the front LSD and 6-speed are to me the only things that keep my Evo from being absolutely perfect. After driving it for a year, I'm starting to realize that I REALLY want a gear that's between 4th and 5th. I tend to do most of my "spirited" driving in 4th gear, but hovering near the redline, which sucks because I have to make that HUGE shift to 5th if I want to accelerate into a straight, and that's usually only for a short time before I have to shift back to 4th. I just need A LITTLE more. The 6-speed has it's 5th gear exactly in that spot where I need it, and as a bonus, it's 6th gear is slightly higher than my 5th which would be great for highway cruising.

And a few months ago I would have agreed with what most people say, that the front LSD is only useful on a track. However with the current power level of my Evo (just exhaust & piggyback), I find that it breaks one front tire loose pretty easily when accelerating hard out of a sharp low-speed turn. This makes the front end hop about in an unpleasant manner until I (gasp!) let off the gas a bit.

I'm not really the type to constantly trade-up to the next best thing, but in this case the MR has 2 things I really want which I can't really add to my current Evo. Doesn't anyone else REALLY want a 6-speed and front LSD? I guess I'm at the point now where I have to decide if they're worth like $10k to me. Tough decision...
